November 2, 1947 — March 17, 2025

Rachel Mae Gunartt-Jordan

Rachel M. Gunartt-Jordan was born on November 2, 1947 to the union of Sip and Marie Martin. Both parents preceded her in death.

Rachel met Louis W. Gunartt Sr. in Clarksdale, Mississippi and the two were married on January 27, 1963. Later that year, Rachel and Louis moved to Chicago, Illinois. It was here that they raised three boys, Louis Jr., Micheal and Donnell.

Rachel enjoyed being a loving wife and mother, and as a multifaceted person, she also found time to enjoy life, cooking, going to the casino, and entertaining family with cookouts and barbecues.

Rachel gave 35 years as a devoted employee to Bethel New Life Supportive Living. She was the Activity Director.

Rachel confessed her life at the Mountain Top M.B. Church, under the leadership of Pastor Kenneth D. Martin Jr., where she served on the Usher Board.

Rachel fought her battle until God called her home on March 17, 2025 at 3:15 a.m. When God took her hand, he said “come with me, my child, your work has been done.”

She is preceded in death by: Her parents; her husband, Louis Gunartt Sr.; sisters, Susie Love, Idella Gibson and Roxy Davis; and son, Micheal A. Gunartt Sr.

She leaves to cherish her memory: Two sons, Louis Gunartt Jr. (Darlene) and Donnell Gunartt Sr. (Annie); a special stepson, Roosevelt Presswood; three sisters, Wilma Wright of Greenville, MS, Fannie Milton of Chicago, IL and Betty Hill of Chicago, IL; one brother, Willie J. Martin of Clarksdale, MS; twenty grandchildren; forty-three great grandchildren; six great great grand-children; and a host of other family and friends.
