James Ray Buchanan

November 3, 1945 — March 27, 2026

James Ray Buchanan was born into life on November 3, 1945 in Winston Salem, NC to parents, James and Bessie Buchanan. He was their third child and was named after his father.

James was a member of the Jewish faith. He spoke several languages; he was fluent in Hebrew and German.

James graduated from Proviso East in 1964, then attended Triton College, where he graduated with an associate degree. After graduating, James joined the United States Army, where he served in Germany. He returned to Illinois in 1970 as a sergeant.

James began working at Hines VA Hospital and remained there until he retired. He was a man of few words, and a big heart. He will truly be missed.

James was born into eternity on March 27, 2026.

He is preceded in death by: His parents, James and Bessie; and siblings, Cathylin, Harriet, Rebecca, George, Barbara, Joliet and Mame, all from Hometown, Illinois.

He leaves to cherish: Six siblings, Reginald, Stanley (LeVon), Constance, Ronald, Sylvester and Brian; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other family and friends.
