Ida Mae King

January 15, 1942 — April 8, 2026

Ida Mae was born on January 15, 1942 to Katie Catherine Thompson and Alexander Dutch Thompson. 

Ida was a baptized Jehovah’s Witness and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, located at 4225 W. Roosevelt Rd., Chicago, IL 60623. 

Ida graduated from Coffeeville High, in Coffeeville, Mississippi when she was just 17 years old. She went on to take additional college courses in accounting. 

Ida began her employment with Sears in department #168, preparing cash reports, stores, and doing data entry. She retired after 40 years as a RIM Coordinator. 

Ida fought and continued to defy the odds, amazing her healthcare team throughout her journey. She fought to the very end of her life, on April 8, 2026. 

She is preceded in death by: Her father, Alexander (Dutch) Thompson; her mother, Katie Catherine Thompson; brother, Jessie (Mattie) Thompson; and sister, Juanita Thompson. 

She leaves to mourn: Her husband of 65 years, Thurman King Jr.; daughter Angela (Tony) Smith; granddaughters, Lauren, Caitlin and Alexis Smith; brothers, Al (Helen) Thompson and Billy Thompson; sisters, Lenora (Willie) Mhoon, Mary (Leonard) Phillips and Thelma (Henry) Austin; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
