Herman Young was born on July 16, 1955, in Dumas, Arkansas, to Clay Young Jr. and Catherine Young. He completed his education at Austin High School and went on to earn two Associate of Science Degrees in Substance Abuse Counseling.
Herman began his career at Haymarket as a Substance Abuse Counselor and, alongside his wife, opened two recovery homes. He had a profound love for old school music, particularly enjoying artists such as Smokie Robinson, Frankie Beverly and Maze, and The Whispers. Known for his humor and charisma, Herman was often described as a "human dictionary" and loved engaging in discussions about U.S. politics. He loved to dress and wore a suit like no other, exuding confidence. Herman was crowned the king of stepping, also known as bop; when he got on the floor, all eyes were on him, and the women couldn’t wait for their turn to dance with the best to ever do it. His favorite saying was, “Where is your faith?”
Herman departed this life on August 20, 2025.
