Elizabeth Bell was born on April 29, 1949, in Sledge, Mississippi, to the late Virginia and Andrew Askew.
Elizabeth, affectionately known as Liz, attended Lucy Flower Technical School and later married Louis Star Bell. From that union, they built a beautiful life together, raising ten children: Louis Bell Jr. (Sandra Bell), Parry Bell, Virginia Bell-Godbold (Paul Godbold), Veronica Gilliam (Alpha Gilliam), Dewone Bell (Kimberly Bell), Jimmy Bell, Jonathan Bell (Mollie Bell), Tony Bell, Francis Bell, and Chontell Bell.
Liz worked at Modern Mailing for a short time to help provide for herself and her siblings. She often served as a second mother, helping to raise her brothers and sisters. She shared her childhood with seven siblings, three sisters, and four brothers. She is preceded in death by her siblings Andrew Jr. (June), Jessie, Charles, Leonard (L.C.), and Patricia. She leaves behind two sisters, Shirley Askew and Vera Ali Shabazzab.
Liz was funny, well-loved, and admired by many. She was incredibly intuitive and seemed to know a little something about everything—and everybody. Liz was a woman who could do it all. From laying concrete to putting up drywall, she literally built things “brick by brick.” She was a true entrepreneur, owning multiple stores, a restaurant, rental property, and much more. She enjoyed country music, comedy, western, and action movies. She was outspoken and fearless when it came to speaking her mind. If she believed you needed to hear something, you would hear it.
Liz departed this life on February 10, 2026. She is preceded in death by her grandson, Lil Louis Bell III, and her nephew, Mario Askew.
She leaves to cherish her memory a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Laquita Bell, Anthony Bell, Erica Bell-Henry (Awbre Henry), Paul Godbold Jr., Vlaun Gilliam-Banks (Brandon Banks), Jahkehia Bell, Jonathan Bell Jr., Christina and Crystal Bell, Terrel, Derrel, and Merrel Bell, along with many others who loved her dearly.
