Dorsey Lee Meridy was born on April 29, 1933 in Marianna, Arkansas to Will and Georgia Mae Meridy. He was the first born of eleven children and the first born of a set of identical twins.
Dorsey relocated to Benton Harbor, Michigan in 1960 and shortly after, he moved to Chicago, Illinois. There he was employed at Amco Wiring Steel Company for many years.
Dorsey eventually went into business for himself as a plumber, and was in business for more than 20 years until he retired.
Dorsey was a man of few words, and he loved telling stories about the good old days. He loved to dance and he really enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his sisters and brothers. He also loved a good cigar.
Dorsey departed this life on April 6, 2026.
He is preceded in death by: His parents, Will and Georgia Mae Meridy; four brothers, Fred, Lavince, Edward and Walter; three sisters, Willie Jean Smith, Zula Mae Griffin and Janie Barne; three sons, Dorsey Meridy, Jr., Donnie and George Champ; two grand- children, Malcolm Meridy and Tasha Norwood; and two great-grandchildren, Martavious Schaffer and Rochanda Sangster.
He leaves to cherish his memories: Two sisters, Annie Brown Rattler and Joyce Palmer; one brother, Will Meridy; two daughters, Denise Champa and Linda Butler; two sons, Duane and Cecil Meridy; twelve grandchildren, sixty-one great-grandchildren, twenty-five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
