Dorothy Jean Tate-Foster was born into life on January 21, 1958 in Proctor, Arkansas. She was born to Wardell Sr. and Flossie Tate. Dorothy accepted Christ early in life at Obedient Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. James Lark. Dorothy later joined Resurrection M.B. Church, under the leadership of Rev. James N. Brown, where she served as Pastor Nurse Aide.
Dorothy attended Gregory Elementary School, Manley High School and Cathole College, all located in Chicago, IL. During her time in Chicago, she worked a M.I.C.A. Daycare, Poly Cleaners, Cintas, Pablo Casals, Peer-Power and KFC. She also worked at Anniversary Inn Hotel in Boise, ID.
Dorothy was a sweet, funny, outgoing and humble person. Anytime you talked with her you either left with a joke or some knowledge. Dorothy loved her nicknames from her kids; “Honey”, “Sweet Thang”, Tina Winner” and “String Bean.”
Dorothy made her transition into eternal life on May 14, 2025 @ 11:30 p.m., quietly in her home.
Dorothy is preceded in death by: Her mother, Flossie Tate; father, Wardell, Tate, Sr.; her husband, Tom Foster; brother, Larry Wallace; sister, Janet Tate; son, Tommy Foster; granddaughter, Jamice Wright; and nephews, Joseph Gist and Daryl Hampton.
Dorothy leaves behind to cherish her memories: Her children, Layer, Foster, Quinise Foster, Tammy Foster, Cornelious Foster, Charlesh Jackson (Nard), Tommy Jackson and Shaniqua Barnes; Goddaughters, Elashuan Calhoun and Lanicole McCury; her Godsons, Steven Richards and Demetrious Stapleton; her siblings, Evangelist Lillie Tate-Smith of St. Louis MO, Florisstean Tate of Rochester MN, Wardell Tate Jr. (Dannie) of Ft. Wayne IN, Vanessa Tate (Ernest) Shirl, Rose (Leon), Debra and Emily Tate, all of Chicago IL; sister-in-law, Alice Tilder; and a host of grand- children, Shaquell Anderson, Jarvaus Burks, Cortez Quentin Stephon, Tatiana Jackson, Chazquell Anderson, Montriel Foster, Deja Jackson, Chardina Burks, Johanna Foster, Ahmad Foster, Keyshawn Foster, Antwon Barron, Abrianna Barron, Johnell Foster, Cornell Allen, A’monta Barron. She also leaves behind sixteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
