Alton Davis was born to Harvey and Juanita (Bins) Davis on April 2, 1944 in Hazelhurst, Mississippi. He was one of six siblings. Alton was baptized at the early age of five at the Chapel Hill Church in Hazelhurst, Mississippi. The family moved to Chicago in 1951.
Alton graduated from Cregier High School. After graduation, he worked at Automatic Electric until he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in the Army from October 1967 until October 1969. After the Army, Alton worked for International Harvester and later at the Hines VA Hospital, where he retired in 2001.
Alton was an advocate music lover. He loved Gospel, Jazz, Doo Wop and Dusties. He loved working in the yard with his next door neighbor, Benny. You would see them sitting on the back porch sipping Rose’ after hours of hard work. You could also find him at the party spot, which was on his Mom’s back porch, with family.
He is preceded in death by: His parents, Harvey and Juanita Davis; his brother, Henry; and his sisters, Doris Muhammad, Vera Pulliam and Joyce McIntosh.
Alton leaves to cherish his memory: His loving wife, Jackie; his son, Michael Davis; his sister, Linda Davis; in-laws, Debra Turner-Ray (Clarence), Bertrand Turner Jr. (Phyllis) and Fareed Muhammad; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
